build the bike for you not for them. you are the only one that has to like it.

when people tell me it wont work , that just makes me try harder to show them they are wrong.

Exactly as nitrous jim put it.
Build what ya want, how ya want.
So long as its safe, for you and other road users, do it.
I've been building oddball hotrods n bikes for yrs, screw popular Consensus. Ignore the "too cool for skool" brigade of preachy types, who don't dig it cuz its not their bag.
People seem to forget the whole bike n rod fraternity is based around being individual, innovative and doin stuff that wouldn't normally fly with joe public.
I was good friends with the late Ed 'big daddy' Roth and without creative types like him, the custom world would be full of bland customs following whatever is trending each yr.

I'm currently building a twinned rear wheel hardtail Kawasaki zr550 mutant...why?
Just because I can.
Yes it's not everyone's cup of joe...yes it'll be a dog to ride(until you get used to trike style counter steer)....And yes most people think I'm nuts.
But...it works, is only for a lil cruising fun, not carving the twisties, and finally was just an exercise in making a freak custom with whatever junk I have laying around.
The frame/motor are zr550, forks/front wheel/twin rear wheels are gpx600, bolt-on custom fabricated hardtail, front calipers gpz600, modified gpx yokes with 3" rise 1" raked risers for custom 1" t bars, Harley switchgear, custom jackshaft made from a go-kart axle carrier,BSA fender stretched 12", zeph 750 tank with fuel sight glasses.
You get the idea.
