1985 Magna Bobber VF500C
This bike's modifications were completed in July 2006. Since completion I have been riding it to work, bike nights, and shows (600 miles).
The V-4 engine is super smooth from idle to the rev limiter. The stock bike was in very good condition. All below listed information on the stock VF500C Magna is published.
Instruments: All of the stock instruments remain intact including the Speedometer and Electric Tachometer. It also retains the Water Temperature Gage, Low Fuel, Over Drive (for 6th grear), Turn, Neutral, and Oil indicator lights. All gages and lights work perfectly. The stock wiring harness is intact and ultra reliable.
Engine: The engine, carbs, and exhast were untouched. It is a Honda for goodness sake. The V4, water cooled, 16 valve, 11:1 copression, 64 HP engine makes good torque from 5,000 to 12,000+ RPM. This engine makes for a quick - lite weight bike with a 12 second quarter mile time. We cleaned, scuffed, preped, and painted the engine with High Temp. Paint which still looks the same as the day it was painted.
Frame: The frame was cut just behind the upper shock mounts. New brackets were welded in place for the solo seat and rear turn signal mounts. A top frame cover was added to cover the electrics under the seat. We cleaned, scuffed, preped, primed, and painted the frame with Semi Gloss Paint which still looks perfect.
Swing Arm: The swing arm is stock length. We added mounting brackets and welded studs for the new rear fender. This allows the rear fender to sit tight to the tire and to move with the rear wheel assembly. We also relocated the lower shock mounts to allow the use of Honda Shadow rear shock/spring units that we had from a previous project. These shocks lowered the bike 2" in the rear. We also lowered the front forks to keep the frame level and to preserve the handling/cornering abilities.
Lights: The stock head light was rectangular. We made special mounts to add a round Honda Shadow Head Light. The Tail light is of classic bobber design and is LED. It is very bright as safety is always a concern. The turn signals match the tail light. Clear lenses with amber bulbs up front with red lenses in the rear.
Paint: Base Coat / Clear Coat metalic green and pearl tan with gold leaf pin stripping were sanded smooth and polished. We painted the fenders, wheels, tank, side covers, and brake components in this fashion.
Handle Bars: The stock bars were replaced with black super bike bars. Coke bottle brown grips and a bar end mirror were added and are currently on the bike.
