Bare Frame

This is the bare frame after I stripped the bike down the previous day. I then sandblasted the frame and cleaned up some of the crap on the cast iron neck. [More pics to come as project progresses]

Hard Tail Section

This is the new weld on hard tail section I bought from JP Cycles. This baby will be welded on to the existing frame to get rid of that weak swingarm. [More pics to come as project progresses]

Cast Neck Section

I have to put more work in to this but it requires a lot of grinding to get all the cast pitting off the next tube... Why the hell did Harley cast the neck section anyway??!! [More pics to come as project progresses]

Open Tunnel

Since I am raising the tank above the backbone I will need to get some 16 guage sheet metal and enclose the tunnel... That is once I make a mount for the tank to bolt to the frame!

Frame Mockup

This is the frame mockup with the tank and hard tail section just sitting on it.

Hart Tail Smoothing

The tube ends on the mass produced hard tail looked stupid so I spent a lot of time welding and filling and grinding to smooth everything out. Well worth the time investment.

Tank raised and closed in.

Here is the tank with the new mounts and the tunnel closed in. It now exposes the backbone of the frame under the tank which I really like. It also gives it more of that oldskool look.

This is with the hard tail welded on now. I still need to figure out what to do with the vertical pipes running up from the bottom of the frame. Not sure how to tie it all in nice.

The stupid brake cable thing runs right in to the frame... How the hell am I going to fix this!?

Great minds think alike
I am doing the same thing with a 71 ironhead. I'm not as far along as you but it looks as if we are both going for that old school bike like I couldn't have back in the day. Nice job!
