I couldn't resist a one-off build with a Sportster power plant. The motor 'was' a 1986, 1st year EVO, XL 4 speed. It's been re-born and stroked with an awesome Edelbrock setup. I was (and still am) very impressed. She's long, fast & so far, available!!

Black Betty is a long chopper configuration. Now I need another sporster or Beull doner for a pro-street creation...

This is my baby, Betty. My neighbor owned it for over twenty years and the first time I seen it I was 8 yrs old. I started buggin him about selling it when I was 12 and I finally got him drunk enough to sell it to me when I was 21! It took a while but I got it! It's a 1971 ironhead, kicker only, top and bottom end just redone, new paint, exhaust, just about everything. Here are some pics before and after. It was sittin in his garage for 6 yrs when I bought it and all I did when I got it home was hook up battery charger and put some gas in it and it started on the third kick!

IDEAS HAS BEEN KEPT HIDDEN FOR 6 MONTHS BY IT'S OWNER NOT SHOWN TO ANY ONE UNTIL THE EASYRIDER SHOW IN COLUMBUS OHIO IN FEBRUARY 2007. THE PHOTOS THAT FOLLOW ARE TAKEN AT TWO SHOWS WHERE THE BIKE TOOK BEST IN CLASS AT BOTH SHOWS AND BEST IN SHOW AT ONE . BUT IT'S OWNER SAY'S THIS IS NOT A SHOW BIKE IT'S A GO BIKE AND KNOWING DAVE'S RIDING STYLE THIS BIKE WILL BE WELL RIDEN

Teardown, Repair, and Repaint

After a few short but eventful rides leaving oil, gas, and bike parts all over the road, it was time to garage the bike and fix everything broken, plus repaint the sheetmetal.

This is how the bike looked when I picked it up. The engine is a 74" ironhead stroker and the top end was just rebuilt by a shop. Paint is ugly and needs redone. No horn, mirror, signals, or license plate, the speedometer isn't hooked up, the starter doesn't work, and the brakes need to be rebuilt.

This has been one of my favorite bikes, and is featured on a 20 minute documentary available on DVD.

By the way; that's a fully hand painted David Mann mural on my shop wall. Thank you to all who helped. I also made an attemp to make the front room floor look like 'Route 66'.
